Do you think white (or in this case, light sand) suits are only appropriate as the attire of grooms and their best men? Well, think again. It might be almost two years since Ryan Gosling wore his off-white piece at the premiere for “Only God Forgives,” but his look is still the benchmark of how a light coloured suit should be worn.
Man of the Moment Ryan Gosling is currently the most coveted movie star in Hollywood. Any of you out there with a girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, or any female friends know, he is also the hottest thing on two legs.
We’ll forgive him his ability to attract members of the opposite sex with such apparent ease, but only because his sense of style is phenomenal. Either this guy has a great stylist or he just knows how to dress. Either way, we love it, and that light sand suit he wore at the premiere put him at the top of our style charts for a very long time.
Now, as you know, we like a suit that fits like a glove – it is, after all, what we do – and we were impressed by the cut and fit of Ryan’s killer suit. No bagginess in the arms or extra width in the pants that we see too often in those off the rack beach suits. No sir, this was an expertly tailored suit with a perfect fit. Two buttoned with, of course, the bottom one undone; this man really knows his stuff.
As for the shirt, well you’re low on options when it comes to a choice of shirt colours with this shade of suit. It’s white, pale blue or perhaps pink for the more adventurous, but Gosling shows us that sometimes the simple choice is the best choice.
But we have to call him out on his choice of shirt tailor. Where are the cuffs, Ryan? A man with his sartorial sixth sense should know to either pull down his sleeves before a photo op or get that shirt tailored right. Maybe he can come to Montagio next time, eh?
Losing the tie is a good move, but we’d probably add a splash of colour with a pocket square. Then again, we’re looking to draw attention to ourselves by injecting some colour into an outfit, and something tells us Ryan Gosling has no such worries.
And the final piece of this particular style puzzle; the shoes. If you have any other colour in your head right now other than brown, then we’ve a bit of work to do to get you up to speed in the world of style.
A suit of this hue needs brown shoes like scotch needs a glass. They’re made for each other – quite literally – and your only worry is how dark should they be. Our friend Ryan shows us the way with a dark brown leather pair that adds a touch of class and formality to his overall look.
So unless you want to know what underwear he’s wearing, you should now have a fairly good idea of how to look good in an off-white suit. Just remember: none of that off the rack game, get yourself suited properly. BOOK YOUR FITTING today, and we’ll have you looking as dapper as Mr. Gosling himself. Now as for his powers of attraction, you’ll have to figure those out for yourself.
