It’s that time of year again when grown men and women fall prey to the tiny part of their imagination that remains locked in childhood mode. A time when we find it perfectly acceptable to wear clothes reclaimed from the bin and smear makeup all over our faces. Yes, it’s Halloween, and this year it’s on a Saturday. So instead of chowing down on the neighbours’ pumpkin pies, why not head into town for a change and try something different.
If you’re up for a full on party vibe, then this nighttime cruise through Sydney Harbour is just the ticket. There’ll be a DJ on board and a few surprises of a scary nature. The only requirement is you wear the freakiest and most terrifying outfit imaginable. It starts at 7.45 and runs through to midnight with an after party straight after.
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be an extra in The Walking Dead, then wonder no more. The annual Sydney Zombie Walk is a lot of fun, but it’s also for a pretty fitting cause; The Australian Brain Foundation. It starts at 3pm and attendance is free, but you have to register to take part and raising a bit of cash for the charity is expected, too. If you’re not too pushed about wearing yourcustom tailored suit as you lurch along the route, organizers have you covered with stalls in Hyde Park selling Zombie regalia from Midday.
Now this might seem a bit out of left field, but for those of you that want to escape the whole Jack O’Lantern buzz, why not head out to Rosehill Gardens for Sydney’s Derby Day. It’s a chance to put all thoughts of Halloween out of your mind as you don your finest tailored suit and place a few bets in the Spring sunshine. Just remember that this is a highly fashionable event so take care to look the part by following our tips for looking good at the races.
Now this one is actually on tonight so you won’t have much time to get your Halloween gear sorted but it promises to be a night to remember. Located in The Australian Museum, this is definitely not your usual night out. A live brain dissection, big old bats, and live reptiles are just some of the weird and wacky goings on at this after hours event. There’ll be drinks and food aplenty and even a chance to get up close and personal with the museum's latest exhibits in a school trip free environment.
