It’s that time of the year again for Time Out to award best pub in the business. With such an array of great pubs to choose from, it really got the Montagio team thinking about where the modern gent would go, so we thought we’d share a few of our favourites and who we’ll be voting for in the People’s Choice Awards – may the best pub win!
A great Sydney classic, The Glenmore Hotel is truly hard to compete with. Located just up the street from the business district, it’s a convenient location for any suited-up gent to enjoy an after-work bevvy as he shows off his office get-up. With a décor and atmosphere that exudes the Glenmore’s 1921 heritage quality and that breathtaking 180 degree rooftop view of Sydney Harbour– is there really a better pub in Sydney to have a meal with mates?
Don’t fret about compromising on that gorgeous view just because it’s cold, the Glenmore’s got you covered with plenty of outdoor heaters. And in the warmer months? There’s no better place to soak up the sun as you take in the harbour breeze from so high above.
The legends from everyone’s favourite burger joint, Mary’s, are the brains between Paddington’s favourite pub, Unicorn Hotel. The great thing about the Unicorn Hotel is it solves the classic weekend question that arises -“Should we dress-up and head to the East? Or chuck on some chinos and head to Newtown for a casual night?”
The Unicorn Hotel is here to save your friendship and expands your outfit options – it’s just up to you whether you’re going for that Paddington-charm or with that hipster Inner-West vibe (that we all question yet secretly wonder if we can pull-off).
As much as we love the grub menu, we are particularly impressed that the Unicorn Hotel serves their own South Australian Grenache wine from Ochota Barrels – just ask for the ‘And it all went dark at Mary’s”.
More often that not, when we thinking about great pubs in the Inner West, it’s all too common we overlook the quaint suburb of Petersham. However, if you’ve never been before – grab your calendar and block out weekends for the next… forever, because there ain’t no BBQ like an Oxford Tavern Black Betty BBQ.
Pop on your best eating pants because this slow-cooked, delicious meat extravaganza is a platter filled with melt-in-your-mouth brisket, fall-off-the-bone, rubs, crispy coleslaw and crunchy-on-the-outside-fluffy-on-the-inside potato gems!
