Shower first shave second

Ideally, you’ll shave directly after a shower. The heat from your shower opens the skin pores, thus making it much easier to shave.

Scrub off the dead skin

It’s surprising how few men make use of a good facial scrub to get rid of all that built-up dead skin all over their faces.

Relieving your face of excess dead skin is an essential part of any grooming regimen, but in this instance, we want you to focus your scrub on any area where your facial hair grows.

Condition

You’ll want to condition your facial hair, yes - even the stubble, and leave the condition on to do its magic for at least five minutes or so. Just about enough time to finish your shower, but don’t wash off that conditioner just yet.

Forget the shaving cream

Unless you’re good with razor blades on a slippery surface, we suggest you jump out of the shower and do your shaving at the sink. That left-in conditioner is going to be a substitute for your shaving cream. To be perfectly honest, any barber worth his salt will tell you to ditch the shaving cream in favour of a shaving oil or that beard conditioner you’ve already used.

Keep it straight

This step seems so simple, but unless you’re told it, it might never occur to you. Shave a straight line diagonally down from your sideburn to the side of your moustache or at least where your moustache should be.

All too often when men are trying to keep their stubble or grow a beard, they leave this line to grow naturally and lose that straight line look that defines a jaw. You can also do a bit of work around the jawline to add more definition.

The finishing touch

Splash cold water on your face to close up the pores and help prevent razor burn naturally.
